Object of Desire
Clement Meadmore’s ‘Dervish’, 1981
A sculpture of ‘transcended geometry’, it embodies the complex physical forces of tension in simple graceful lines. Using benign bronze, the sculpture is a single fluid movement of energy, tensely engaging with its context. In the sculptor’s hands, the geometry has acquired an expressive suppleness typical of media such as wood and clay.
